A note from our team

Dear Patient,

We get it. Figuring out how to manage injuries and pain is hard. Really hard.

There's a physiotherapy clinic on every corner. Dr. Google says everything works — and that nothing works. Friends and family all have a recommendation. You're being pulled in a million directions, getting more confused, and meanwhile your pain is still there.

You try Clinic A, but the physio spends ten minutes with you and then ships you off to an assistant for cookie-cutter exercises. You try Clinic B, and this time the physio doesn't even touch you because "manual therapy won't help." Clinic C seems great, but the only treatment is machines that feel good for a few hours — then the pain returns.

Here's a little industry secret: these clinics all have one thing in common. They're structured to benefit the clinic and the practitioners — not you. But it's not about them. It's about you.

What you want is simple. More mobility. More strength. Returning to the things you love. Less pain.

It starts with a clinic that puts your interests first — one that recognizes no two patients, or injuries, are the same, and provides truly customized care built around your goals.

Let us show you the difference of an authentic, patient-centered approach.

See you soon,
The Proactive Athlete Team

Questions & answers

Physiotherapy FAQ

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?

No. A physician's referral is not required to see a physiotherapist in Ontario. A small number of insurance providers may require one for reimbursement, so check your plan before your first session.

Does OHIP cover physiotherapy?

OHIP covers physiotherapy only in limited, specific circumstances. For most patients, physiotherapy is covered through extended health insurance or paid privately. We're happy to help you understand your options.

Will my insurance cover physiotherapy?

Most extended health plans include physiotherapy coverage. We direct bill to most major insurers — bring your insurance details to your first appointment and we'll handle the rest.

How long will my appointment take?

Your initial assessment is typically 45–60 minutes so we can fully understand your injury and goals. Follow-up treatment sessions are usually 30–45 minutes.

What happens at my appointments?

Treatment is tailored to you — it may include hands-on manual therapy, movement and strength-based rehab, education, and a personalized home program. No cookie-cutter exercise sheets.
